LEDC’s Micro-Lending Program

Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD)
Micro-Lending Program provides business loans between $5,000 and $50,000 to qualified start-ups and existing businesses that have difficulty obtaining credit from mainstream financial institutions.

 

Small Business Technical Assistance (SBTA)

Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD)
provides business support services to small and retail businesses in eligible commercial areas in the District of Columbia. The assistance provided can include but is not limited to micro-loan packaging, business planning, entrepreneurial training, one-on-one business technical assistance, tax preparation assistance, accounting assistance, and legal assistance.

 

Storefront Improvement Program

Storefront Improvement Project (SIP) assists businesses with the store facade improvement. Commercial and Small Business Corridor Program (CSBC) focuses on the revitalization of certain eligible neighborhoods.

 

District Capitalized (Microloan)

Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)
The Microloan Fund provides eligible small businesses with access to capital opportunities up to $50,000 throughout the life cycle of a business. Funds can be used as grants, loans or collateral to cover start-up costs, working capital, equipment and inventory to name a few.

ExportDC offers small DC-based businesses a range of value-added benefits to enhance their overseas marketing efforts.

 

Healthy Food Retail

Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)
DSLBD provides grant support to small grocery stores and has a total of $150,000 for this grant.

 

Commercial Waste Compactor Program

Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)
Grants up to $13,500 to help DC Businesses purchase or lease a commercial waste compactor for trash, recyclables or organic waste for composting.

 

Dream Grants

Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD)
The grants are to provide business development support to the growth of microbusinesses with fewer than five (5) employees located in Ward 7 or 8 for which residents of those Wards comprise 50% or more of the ownership of the business. DSLBD intends to award up to fifteen (15) grants, of up to $10,000 each, from the $125,000 in total available funding for spring 2018.

 

Great Streets Retail Small Business Capital Improvement Grants

Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED)
Great Streets Retail Small Business Reimbursement Grants, which are competitive grants of up to $50,000 for qualified small business owners who wish to improve their place of business.

 

Business Energy Rebates Program

Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE)
The DCSEU provides standard rebates up to $25,000 to District businesses for installing a wide range of new, energy-efficient Lighting, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning equipment, refrigeration equipment and cooking line appliances suitable for all types of business needs.

 

Certified Capital Companies Program

Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB)
The District’s Certified Capital Company (CAPCO) Program is an effort to increase private capital investment in small businesses based in the District. The CAPCOs are required to provide $50 million in loans and equity investments to District-based businesses.

 

Innovation Finance Program

Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB)
The program provides capital to investors that co-invest with the District in start-ups and emerging companies that seek financing alternatives to traditional commercial financing. The portion that the District invests cannot exceed 50% of the loan and is capped at $500,000.

 

Collateral Support Program

Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB)
The program provides capital to small businesses with insufficient collateral for a loan by depositing cash collateral with lenders (bank, credit union or community development financial institution), who in turn, loan to these businesses.

 

Loan Participation Program

Department of Insurance, Securities, and Banking (DISB)
The LPP provides loan support for small business borrowers who may be qualified for loans, but are unable to meet capital requirements or the debt service coverage ratio of the lending institution.

 

Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)

Department of Employment Services (DOES)
The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federally-funded program that reduces the federal tax liability of private-for-profit and in some instances non-profit employers hiring new employees from eligible target groups.
