The program, which is the result of legislation revised and approved by Councilmember McDuffie’s Committee on Business and Economic Development, will make the power grid more resilient while achieving a notable rate of 100% participation of Certified Business Enterprise (CBE) or Certified Joint Venture among subcontractors

Washington, D.C. — Today, Councilmember Kenyan R. McDuffie, Chair of the Committee on Business and Economic Development will join other leaders to break ground on the DC Power Line Undergrounding Project (DC PLUG). The program is in response to persistent related power outages and is the result of multiple pieces of legislation, which fall under the purview of the Committee on Business and Economic Development.

“As a champion for District-based businesses, I am proud to have crafted the DC PLUG law with a goal of 100 percent participation of local contractors, while increasing the resilience of our power grid to prevent future power outages.” McDuffie stated, “To date, our efforts have resulted in 100 percent CBE or Certified Joint Venture participation in program management services contracts for DC PLUG. Employing District residents and contracting with District-based businesses keeps our dollars circulating in our local economy.”
