Snow Removal Update

January 26, 2016

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for your patience as we recover from the snow storm. I am so proud of the Ward 5 community for pitching in and helping neighbors to shovel their fronts, dig out their cars and checking in on our seniors. Yesterday, my staff and I drove through the Ward 5 community to assess the main thoroughfares and side streets. Although the main streets are passable, there are many side streets that still need attention. Today, my colleagues and I were on a call with the City Administrator and after which my staff reported in several of our problem side streets.

My staff and I will continue to monitor the troubled areas that you inform us about and report those to the D.C. Snow Team. Please continue to call, email, or send us a tweet. It is especially helpful if you can provide a 311 service tracking number for us to follow up on. Ensuring your safety during this recovery process and that you are able to get back to your daily routine is important to us.

Important updates:

A snow emergency is in effect until 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 27. Please do not park in the snow emergency routes before then. The snow emergency tickets are $250 and result in the towing of your vehicle.

DCPS will open on time Wednesday, January 27.

DPW will resume trash collection on Thursday, January 28. See the schedule here.

  • MetroAccess service for riders with disabilities picked back up today; locations will not be available for door-to-door service where streets or parking lots have not been plowed.
  • The MetroAccess call center (reservations) is now operating under regular business hours 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • 86 of 91 Metro stations have reopened and rail service is operating every 12 minutes on all lines.

You may track plows in your neighborhood here or contact 311.

Again, I am so proud of the Ward 5 community and your collective efforts to help out your neighbors through this storm.
